Ways to Stay Active

Being active helps kids and adults feel their best. It builds strong muscles, boosts coordination and even improves sleep. Plus, movement helps reduce stress—for everyone.

When families move together, the benefits grow. Try dancing during cleanup, stretching before bed or marching while brushing teeth. Even a few minutes at a time can make a big difference.

Need Ideas to Get Moving? Try these:

  • Babies: Tummy time on the floor while you sing or talk to them
  • Toddlers: Dancing party while cleaning up toys
  • Preschoolers: Stretching before bed or marching while brushing teeth

How Much Physical Activity Do Kids Need Each Day?

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics:

  • Infants need at least 30 minutes of “tummy time” and other interactive play, spread throughout each day.
  • Kids aged 3-5 need at least 3 hours of physical activity per day, or about 15 minutes every hour they are awake.

These small, playful moments add up and help your child grow strong and confident.

Create a Healthy and Supportive Home

Small changes at home can make a big impact on how your child grows, learns and feels. From daily routines to screen time limits, children feel safer and more confident in a calm, caring space. That’s why daily routines, clear limits and a peaceful environment matter so much.

Consistency helps children understand what to expect. Over time, that builds trust and reduces stress for everyone.

Be a Positive Role Model

Parents are a child’s first and most important teacher. They watch everything you do. That’s why your actions—big or small—teach them how to make healthy choices. Whether you’re drinking water, taking a walk or calming down after a tough moment, your child is learning from you.

In addition, great role models show what it looks like to make mistakes and recover with compassion. That’s the heart of positive parenting.

Build Healthy Habits, Together

Every healthy choice you make as a family adds up. Whether it’s a walk after dinner, trying a new veggie or setting a regular bedtime routine, you’re building habits that set your kids up for success.

Start small. Keep going. And celebrate the progress along the way.
