The weeks after delivery are just as important as the first, second and third trimester. That’s why more experts are talking about the fourth trimester—the first three months after your baby is born.
This is a time of big change—for your baby, your body, your mind and your family. And while it can be filled with love and joy, it’s also completely normal to feel tired, unsure or overwhelmed.
What You Might Be Feeling
Everyone’s fourth trimester is different, but many parents go through things like:
- Sleep deprivation and exhaustion
- Breastfeeding struggles or questions
- Physical healing from childbirth
- Emotional ups and downs
- Changes in sex, intimacy and relationships
- Shifting identity at home or at work
It’s common—and OK—to feel like things are messy. You’re not doing it wrong. You’re just in the fourth trimester.
