One of the best ways to support your health and your baby’s development is by eating nutritious foods and staying gently active.

Eating Healthy During Pregnancy

When you’re pregnant, what you eat becomes even more important—for your energy, your health and your baby’s growth. But don’t stress. You don’t need to be perfect—just aim for a balance. Everybody is different, so talk to your doctor about what’s right for you. You can also check out helpful tips on MyPlate.gov’s Pregnancy & Breastfeeding page.

How to eat for two - you and your baby

Eating for Two

You may have heard “eat for two,” but that doesn’t mean twice as much—it means choosing foods full of vitamins, protein, fiber and healthy fats. Your baby gets the nutrients they need from what you eat, so small changes can make a big difference.

Prenatal Vitamins

Even with healthy meals, your body needs extra help during pregnancy. That’s where prenatal vitamins come in. They give you folic acid (to help prevent birth defects), plus iron, calcium and other nutrients your baby needs to grow strong. You can buy them at most drugstores or get a prescription from your doctor.

Need Help Getting Food

WIC (Women, Infants & Children) can help! WIC provides healthy food, nutrition classes and support for pregnant women who qualify. If you’re on a tight budget, this is a great place to start. Visit Arizona WIC to see if you’re eligible.
