Being a parent is a big job and every parent deserves support, including those with disabilities. Whether you need tools to make daily life easier or want to connect with other parents who get it, help is out there.
The Disabled Parenting Project is an online community where you can find advice and support from other parents with disabilities. For tools that can help you drive, cook, communicate and do many other things, contact the Arizona Technology Access Program. For legal advice and assistance, call the Arizona Center for Disability Law.
Asking for Help
All parents need support—and asking for help doesn’t mean you’re not doing a great job. In fact, it’s one of the best things you can do for yourself and your baby.
Here’s how to make the most of your support system:
- Let friends or family know exactly what you need—like help with meals, errands or holding the baby while you nap.
- Don’t be afraid to say yes when someone offers to help.
- Let other caregivers know your routines and preferences for your baby’s care.
